I totally agree with those who gave a 3 star rate. The software reminds me of the nineties. Having been reading ebooks in palms, smartphones and ppc's to read from this Sony 600 reader is a complete regression. Along with the software, the glare in the screen is a constant annoyance. Having to constantly move the book to find the right position to be able to read. It's been more than a month and I'm still complaining, it means that it really sucks. -- Awful software
I was debating between this one and the Kindle 2. I am happy having went with the Sony, the only negative that i can think of is that the glare is sometimes a pain when used inside, as others have said outdoors its not really a problem. Even so the glare is easily resolved by a few degrees adjustment in your viewing angle. The device is simple to use and its easy to add books onto the device. This thing has replaced 4 very heavy textbooks, so if possible my back alone would rate this 5 stars. I find myself having to charge the device only about once a week and i do a fair amount of reading. To be honest the Kindle2 was also alright, I think you would be happy with either device, its just a matter of preference. -- Overall, very good
I love the PRS-600. I got it around christmas time on sale and rushed home and set it up on both my PC laptop and my Mac Book. Both systems handle the software beautifully. My only issue when i initially purchsed it was the lack of books available. But that was easilly fixed by finding other ebook stores, and using the adobe software. I was originally going to get a Nook or a Kindle...but i was impatient and wanted my reader ASAP.
The sony reader allows me to carry the 4 or more books i am reading all at the same time without having to carry a bigger purse. I can use it in direct sunlight as easily as indoors. The removable storage was the real deal maker for me. I can load MP3s onto the memory card and use the internal memory and the additional card for books. Not to mention the landscape view vs. the standard view option allows me to read more comfortably.
though if you are looking for a device that does a ton more than books and MP3s then you'll want a laptop.
all in all it is a great device, easy to use, excellent extra features(notes, high lighting, even dog eared pages!), collection options, pictures, clear easy to read screen, perfect for me.
-- Pleasure reading
It is great, although some software bugs. The documents are lost (pdf and doc) somewhere but the touch capabilities are great. -- sony digital reader prs600bc
I loved this reader more than the others. I don't have accessability to online stores becouse I'm living outside US so this is the perfect device.
I hope sony will fix the RTL and non latin languages issues.
generally, sony reader carried all of my books inside my carry bag in car, travilling, airplane and that fill my wating times instead of BB chating !! get my eyes feel comfortable instead of laptop screen that killed them.
believe me this is the best device I have for next 3 years.
I just miss the internal light exist in PRS700 -- this is great....
