This product was great. I liked the performance, look and feel of it, right up to the point where it quit on me the second day I had it. The light was great for my 6" Kindle, though I could see how it might be a stretch to light a larger screen. The clip worked well, both with and without the cover on my kindle. It was a great product, for about a day and a half.
Being the person I am I had to take it apart to see what the problem was. I thought maybe it was something simple I could fix, like a loose connection. I was dissapointed to find that one of the wires was worn through right where the swing arm hinged. It seems to be possibly a design flaw, but I'm assuming a product with so many good reviews, I must have just gotten a lemon.
Unfortunately , because I moved out of the country and needed a light ASAP for a 13-hour plane ride, I had to buy another light at a retail store. It's working well, but it does have a bit of a glare issue I didn't encounter with the Kandle. Overall, other than being shipped a lemon, I would have rated this a 5-star product. -- Great, if it had kept working.
This light is perfect for the Kindle and is just what I wanted. It fits right onto the Kindle and allows me to read if my Husband is sleeping. I love it!! -- Kindle Kandle
This has been a very good investment for my Kindle 2. It lights up the entire screen for me, with a bit of tweaking, and it doesn't disturb my husband's sleep. Well worth the money. -- Good bargain, good light!
Seriously. Stop looking at all those other clip-on lights. This is simply the best design I've seen for this application. Just do the one-click purchase button and get it over with.
You don't want some clumsy reading light with a telescoping arm or a flexible goose-neck apparatus clipped onto your Kindle. Think about it. This thing snuggles right up to the top of your reading area, it's adjustable, it's light as a feather, doesn't measurably affect the center of gravity of your Kindle, and it folds up and goes in your pocket, purse, man-bag, laptop bag, or whatever when not in use. I just bought the 6" Kindle 2 last week (my first eInk reader) and I'm thrilled with it. I like to read in bed at night though, so have been anxious to get my Kandle. The amount of light from the Kandle is perfect for my needs, and I'm 56 with bifocals. If you've never seen LED lighting on the Kindle, I personally think the sort of blue-ish white light looks more natural on the Kindle screen than the incandescent light in my nightstand lamp which gives off a sort of yellowish hue on the screen.
The Kandle has 2 LED lights, about 1 1/2" apart with a reflective surface behind them. This combination provides even distribution of light on the screen with no hot spots, glare, or reflections, despite what you might see in some of the still images or in Christine's video review. There's none of that here. Must be the camera(s).
My only serious gripe is the price. That's the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. None of these lights should cost more than $5.00 in a perfect world. C'mon!! :) You can nit-pick about the construction all you want, but I'm not going to strap it to my football helmet, so I think if I am just a little bit careful it will hold up just fine.
The little instructions fold-out that comes in the box says you'll get 25 hours with a pair of of the included 3V CR2032 Lithium batteries. We'll see. BTW, mine came with two batteries pre-installed in the unit, and two additional batteries in a small plastic bag. Yes, it's a nuisance to go find your smallest screwdriver to open the battery compartment. I used one that came with an eyeglasses repair kit. They could have made that a little easier, but on a positive note, the battery compartment cover isn't going to pop-off in your pocket and disappear either. So maybe they knew what they were doing.
I like it. -- This is the one to buy
This light clips easily to my Kindle, it is light weight, not too bright, and small enough to bring along without any trouble. -- Lite
